Long time Rider and Charter Member and good friend – John Fassett – passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, back in April of this year. The “Rider Family” and the “SAL Family” wanted to do something to honor John at the Post that would serve as a permanent reminder to us all as to what an amazingly beautiful man he was.
John loved to build things. He also loved making children happy.
What better way to honor him – than to dedicate a new playground area for the children that visit the Legion Hall – in John’s name?
On August 2nd, 2013, the SAL and the Legion Riders at Post 7 put together a fun family barbecue, rented a bouncy house and had John’s wife Linda and his daughter Lindy come cut the “ribbon” for the dedication of the new official John Fassett Kid Park area. His sister Jeanne Epp made sure to try out the slide and swing and honor her brother as well.
It was an evening filled with children’s laughter, hugs, a few tears and lots of love. Exactly what John would have wanted.
Our hearts are still heavy with grief – but every time a child climbs onto a swing under the “John Fassett Kid Park” sign and breaks out into a beaming grin – we will think of John and his great belly laugh and how much he would have loved to see a park for children created in his honor.
Please visit the Legion and enjoy some of the community dinners and events!
Bring your children!
We have a beautiful playground for them now and we would love to hear more laughter as they enjoy the swings, slide, sandbox and climbing wall!
